Do you find yourself - a team member -or perhaps your business partner often responding to new ideas with” I can’t because or we can’t because…”
Many people become conditioned to responding with why something cannot work, before considering how something could work.
Doing something new- either implementing a brand new idea or creating a new strategy or system can feel daunting for some, and the way many people have learned to hold on to the comfort of the status quo is by shutting it down right out of the gate.
Are you the one to think and /or respond with “I can’t because…” Or “ It won’t work because…”
Instead of allowing that to be your go to response, or if you experience this in others at home or in your business, try being curious and asking more questions either of yourself or the other person.
Some ways to stay open minded and curious may sound like:
“Tell me more about why you think that won’t work”
“What would be the worst thing that could happen if we did try that?”
Tell me more about what your fears or concerns are if we did…”
How do you think it would affect you personally, and /or the business if we did ...?”
By not allowing the conversation to shut down, but rather initiating new open minded thoughts and questions, you can keep the conversation going in your own mind and / or with another person that can make a big difference in the outcome.
New ideas can mean new innovations in your business. New ways of doing things can translate into less stress and more free time.
Creative collaborations amongst your team or staff or business partner can create a competitive edge in doing something differently than how others in your industry do it.
Remember to stay curious and open minded. Explore options and possibilities no matter how outlandish they may seem initially.
Set aside regular time for thinking, creating , brainstorming and considering new ideas- both your own and others so that you can continue to grow and thrive!
